A cold front advanced through southern Brazil and, upon reaching Paraná on Monday afternoon (21), encountered a warm and humid environment, favored by the flow of wind blowing from the northern region of the country since the morning. Under these conditions, several storms were recorded in the state.
The Simepar weather station in Apucarana recorded around 7:15 pm this Monday (21) a wind gust of 124.9 km/h, and an accumulated rainfall of 26 mm in just one hour. The rain returned to the city during the early morning, and between midnight and 7 am this Tuesday (22) another 27 mm of rain were recorded at the station, with a wind gust of 49.3 km/h around 1:15 am.
Also on Monday (21), other wind gusts above 70 km/h in Paraná were recorded at the Simepar meteorological stations in Altônia (74.2 km/h at 10:15 pm), General Carneiro (83.9 km/h at 1:30 pm), Horizonte District, in Palmas (83.9 km/h at 8:15 pm), Telêmaco Borba (95.4 km/h at 8:30 pm), and at the airport stations in the Bacacheri neighborhood, in Curitiba (86.8 km/h at 9:30 pm), in Foz do Iguaçu (83.2 km/h at 5:30 pm) and Maringá (86.8 km/h at 6 pm).
The highest rainfall amounts on Monday were recorded in Assis Chateaubriand (Simepar) (93.8 mm), Curitiba (Simepar) (65.6 mm), São José dos Pinhais (IAT) (62 mm), Piraquara (Sanepar) (59.8 mm), Lapa (Simepar) (58 mm), Antonina (Simepar) (55.4 mm), and Marumbi Base, on the coast (Simepar) (54.8 mm).
On Tuesday (22) until 7:15 am, the strongest wind gusts were recorded in Guaratuba (81 km/h at 3:30 am), Maringá (71.3 km/h at 0:45 am), Loanda (65.5 km/h at 0:15 am), Cianorte (62.6 km/h at 0:00 am), Cornélio Procópio (60.8 km/h at 2:15 am) and Londrina (58.7 km/h at 1:45 am).
The highest rainfall amounts this Tuesday up to 7:15 am were in Cambará (52.4 mm), Loanda (53.8 mm), Paranavaí (44.2 mm), Mauá da Serra (41.6 mm) and Maringá (41.2 mm).
Extensive cloud cover associated with the frontal system still covers a large part of Paraná. However, the intense convective cells that affected the state in recent hours have already moved away, advancing towards São Paulo. Despite the departure of the most severe areas, Paraná remains quite cloudy with conditions for rain in the morning throughout the northern region and also in part of the eastern part of the state.
The highest expected rainfall totals are concentrated mainly between the Northern Pioneer region and the eastern part of Paraná state, where volumes may vary between 30 and 50 mm, with values exceeding those in some places. In the Cerro Azul and Adrianópolis region, in the Ribeira Valley, rain will still occur at various times, with more significant accumulations, while in União da Vitória the trend is for much lower volumes, generally less than 10 mm.
In the Apucarana region, rain continues, generally of weak intensity. Only at some moments may there be moderate showers. There is no expectation of improvement in weather conditions this Tuesday. In the afternoon and evening there may still be rain with thunderstorms. Wednesday (23) and Thursday (24) the rain will give a break to the region.
