The price of cottonseed in Mato Grosso ended October 2026 at a level 23.76% lower than that recorded in the same month of the previous year, despite the current crop production being lower than that of the previous season, according to the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea).
The average price of the co-product was R$ 718.40 per ton in October, a decrease of 5.54% compared to September. In October 2025, the average price had been R$ 942.23 per ton.
According to Imea, one of the pressures on the market comes from the progress in processing the 2025/26 crop. Up to the last Friday considered by the bulletin, 65.62% of the production had already gone through the process, increasing the availability of cottonseed in the state market.
The increased supply, however, does not alone explain the more significant drop observed in the year-on-year comparison. The institute highlights that weakened demand in Mato Grosso throughout 2026 has limited the support for prices, even in the face of lower production than that recorded in the previous harvest.
This contrast indicates that the reduction in production volume was not enough to compensate for the lower demand for the co-product. With processing advancing and making more cottonseed available on the market, the absence of an equivalent reaction in demand maintains pressure on prices.
In the short term, Imea sees no clear signs of demand recovery and assesses that prices are likely to remain under pressure, with no room for more significant increases. The institute notes that this behavior is also aligned with the seasonal pattern recorded in periods with similar demand conditions in the state.
