Increased herbicide prices raise alert for the 2027/28 crop season.

The agricultural pesticide market is beginning to show significant movement for the 2027/28 harvest, with producers evaluating opportunities to anticipate purchases and monitoring price trends. According to Jeferson Souza, a market intelligence analyst, the recent increase in the price of glufosinate is noteworthy and reinforces the need to observe the sector's fundamentals before defining new positions.

In recent weeks, the topic has gained prominence in conversations with rural producers, including during the Winter Show, held by Agrária in Guarapuava, Paraná. The concern relates to the most appropriate time to negotiate inputs for the next season, considering market fluctuations.

Among the products analyzed, glufosinate showed one of the most significant price movements. Prices registered a substantial increase in the last 30 days, especially in China, the main global supplier of the active ingredient. The price increase in the Chinese market also reached Brazil, influencing trading conditions.

Despite this scenario, there is still a significant volume of pesticides to be used in soybean crops and, especially, in the second corn crop. At the same time, some farmers are already beginning to assess purchasing possibilities for the 2027/28 cycle, seeking to identify favorable acquisition conditions.

Souza observes that, even with the recent increase in glufosinate prices, the overall scenario for pesticides remains relatively favorable for producers. When considering herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides, purchasing power remains at attractive levels. In this context, the relationship between pesticide prices and farmers' purchasing power will be crucial in determining the pace of advance sales for the 2027/28 crop.
