Potatoes get cheaper as the harvest progresses.

Potato prices fell in wholesale markets as the harvest progressed in the main producing regions. According to data released by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), reduced rainfall favored the pace of fieldwork, increasing the availability of the tuber and putting downward pressure on prices.

The reduced rainfall allowed producers to advance with the harvest and put more potatoes on the market. With a greater supply available, wholesale prices began to fall.

According to data released by Cepea, most of the potatoes currently offered are of good quality, which also contributes to increasing the availability of the product for sale.

For the next few days, the trend is for continued increases in supply. The forecast of drier weather with less rain in the Southeast Region should further favor the progress of the harvest.

With work progressing in the producing areas, the expectation is that a larger quantity of tubers will reach the wholesale markets, maintaining pressure on prices.
