Corn: Domestic consumption grows, reducing availability for export.

Corn prices in Brazil have slowly improved and now fluctuate between R$ 52 and R$ 63 per sack, while planting for the 2026/27 crop progresses in the Center-South region. According to data released by the International Center for Economic Analysis and Agricultural Market Studies (CEEMA), the market is also facing changes in domestic demand and the pace of exports.

Corn prices in the Brazilian market are between R$ 52 and R$ 63 per sack, entering the same range recorded a year ago. In Rio Grande do Sul, the average reached R$ 62.67 per sack, according to data released by CEEMA. This movement occurs in a scenario of transformation in the Brazilian market, with increased domestic consumption and greater competition for the grain.

Domestic demand for corn has been increasing, driven mainly by the expansion of corn processing. At the same time, Brazil faces a more competitive environment for exporting its production to the international market. Between July and August 2026, Brazilian corn exports totaled 6.59 million tons, a volume 28.91% lower than that recorded in the same period last year.

During the same period, the average price of corn at the Port of Santos fell by 9.7%, while Brazil's competitors expanded their presence in international trade. With the growth in domestic demand, competition for the grain within the country increased and reduced its availability for export.

Brazilian corn exports lost momentum throughout September, widening the gap once again compared to the performance recorded in the same month of 2025.

According to data released by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), up to the fourth week of September, considering 18 working days, Brazil had shipped 4.6 million tons of the cereal. The daily average was 25.7% below that recorded in September 2025.

From the third week of the month onwards, shipments lost momentum. Even so, this movement interrupted, at least for now, the recovery observed after the weak results in August. In the previous month, the daily average of exports had ended 32% below that recorded in August 2025.

Planting of the 2026/27 summer corn crop reached 341 TP4T of the estimated area for the Center-South of Brazil by September 24th. This percentage represents an increase compared to the 271 TP4T recorded the previous week and also surpasses the 321 TP4T observed in the same period last year. According to data released by AgRural, operations are still concentrated in the three states of the Southern Region.

The other states in the Center-South region follow a later planting schedule. The advancement of sowing occurs at a time of greater domestic demand for the cereal, while exports face increased competition in the international market.
