Corn: Harvest progresses and prices fall to US$ 5 in Chicago.

The quote for corn The price fell to US$ 5 per bushel in Chicago, pressured by increased stocks in the United States. According to data released by the International Center for Economic Analysis and Agricultural Market Studies (CEEMA), the market is also monitoring the US harvest and crop conditions.

The price of corn for the first month's delivery plummeted on September 30th, closing the day at US$5.00 per bushel in Chicago. This was the lowest price in just over a month. On October 1st, the closing price showed a slight recovery, reaching US$5.02 per bushel. A week earlier, the price was at US$5.27 per bushel.

The average price in September was US$5.22 per bushel, 11.31 per bushel above the average recorded in August. Considering the last three months, between July and September, the average price per bushel of corn accumulated a rise of 25.21 per bushel in Chicago. In September 2025, the monthly average was US$4.13 per bushel.

According to data released by CEEMA, the recent price decline is related to the increase in corn stocks in the United States. As of September 1st, corn stocks had increased by 35% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 53.3 million tons. This increase in stocks occurs while the harvest of the 2026/27 US crop is progressing at a historic pace.

By September 27th, the corn harvest in the United States had reached 18% of the area, exactly at the historical average. Despite the progress being within normal parameters, crop conditions remain below those recorded last year.

According to data released by CEEMA, the USDA maintained the percentage of crops classified as being in good or excellent condition at 57%. In the same period of 2025, this percentage was 66%.

Another 26% of the crops were in fair condition, while 17% were classified as poor to very poor.

US corn shipments totaled 1.57 million tons during the period analyzed. This volume was close to the upper limit of market projections. In the current marketing year, which began on September 1st, exports reached 5.73 million tons.

The result represents an increase of 16% compared to the same period of the previous year. The increase in shipments occurs in a scenario of high stocks and crop conditions inferior to those observed in 2025, factors that continue to influence the formation of corn prices in Chicago.
