The first projections for the wheat In Argentina, yields are higher than the average of the last five harvests, although lower than the previous cycle in most regions. According to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BCBA), the outlook is favorable after recent rains, while assessments of frost damage continue.
The survey shows that 91% of the wheat area has adequate or optimal moisture, and 64% of the crops are in good or excellent condition. With 84% of the crop in the stem elongation phase or in more advanced stages, the plants are moving towards grain filling. In the northern and western agricultural regions, the estimated productivity could also exceed that of 2021/22, a campaign that recorded the second highest national production. The expectation of lower yields than last season does not include northwestern Argentina.
In the 2026/27 commercial corn crop, planting reached 29.91 TP4T of the projected 8.4 million hectares. The advance was 7.7 percentage points in the week, leaving the work five points ahead of the same period of the previous cycle. Sowing is progressing through the central and eastern regions and gaining momentum in Córdoba and western Buenos Aires province. Emergence is uniform in much of the central region, but in east-central Entre Ríos there are irregularities, and one-third of the crops are in fair condition.
In sunflower planting, 36.11 TP4T of the projected 3.1 million hectares have been sown, a weekly increase of 3.2 percentage points. After the rains, work should pick up pace when the soil allows for machinery access. Among the planted crops, 98.41 TP4T are in normal to excellent condition and 921 TP4T have adequate or optimal moisture. There are reports of caterpillars in Chaco and north-central Santa Fe, as well as damage caused by birds in the latter region.
