Pre-emergent herbicides can increase rice productivity.

Early weed management can play a decisive role in the development of rice irrigated, especially in areas with a high incidence of grass-rice and greater pressure from competition. According to Lucas Copetti, an agricultural consultant, the use of Pre-emergent herbicide It is essential to facilitate management during the V3-V4 stage, a period that coincides with the start of irrigation and can directly influence crop productivity.

The strategy aims to reduce the presence of weeds from the earliest stages of the crop, preventing them from competing with the rice for important resources such as light, water, and nutrients. With less interference at the beginning of the cycle, the producer also finds better conditions to conduct subsequent control measures and preserve the productive potential of the area.

Data presented by Copetti shows the difference observed in situations with a high incidence of barnyardgrass. In comparison, areas managed with pre-emergent herbicide, applied before or after sowing, achieved a productivity of 8.2 tons per hectare. In areas without the use of pre-emergent herbicide, where there was greater interference from weeds, productivity was 4.1 tons per hectare.

The difference represents up to 100% of productivity between the scenarios presented. In addition to yield, early management is related to a cleaner crop, with less competition for resources, and a more consistent response in different environments.

The adoption of pre-emergent herbicides is also presented as a tool to protect the crop's potential and increase its profitability. The results reinforce the importance of starting control early, especially in areas where barnyardgrass exerts high pressure on the crop.
