Rain, wind and hail: see the areas under alert.

A cold front is advancing through the South-Central region of Brazil this Monday (21) and Tuesday (22), with forecasts of intense rain, severe storms, wind gusts of up to 70 km/h and hail. According to data released by Meteored, the system will maintain its influence over the country until Thursday (24), with alerts for areas in the South, Southeast and Midwest.

In the early hours of this Monday (21), the cold front begins to form over Rio Grande do Sul. According to data released by Meteored, all regions of the state are under alert for severe storms, wind gusts of up to 70 km/h and hail.

Instability is moving north, northwest, and towards the Porto Alegre region by the end of the early morning. In Santa Catarina, the alert begins in the morning in the west, south, and areas near the border with Rio Grande do Sul.

Throughout the morning, the cold front will move through Santa Catarina, bringing heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 70 km/h to all regions of the state. Warnings also extend to western, southern, and eastern Paraná, reaching the Curitiba region by the end of the period.

In Rio Grande do Sul, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms continues in the north, northwest, and northeast. In other regions, including Porto Alegre, the weather will be more stable.

During the afternoon, a second frontal system reinforces the cold front affecting Rio Grande do Sul. The system continues to advance and causes changes in the weather in areas of the Central-West and Southeast regions.

As a result, virtually all of Rio Grande do Sul is on alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail, with the exception of the South, the Campanha region, and the far West. In Santa Catarina and Paraná, all regions are also included in the alert area.

In the Southeast, the change in weather begins in the afternoon. According to data released by Meteored, increased cloud cover and the first isolated showers will affect eastern São Paulo, southern Minas Gerais, and southern Rio de Janeiro.

Throughout the afternoon, the risk of storms and heavy rain increases in south-central, western, eastern, and northeastern São Paulo and in the far south of Minas Gerais.

During the night, the rains decrease. However, between the end of the night and the beginning of the early morning of Tuesday (22), there is a risk of severe storms in São Paulo, mainly in the locations close to Paraná and in the south of the state.

In the Central-West region, the presence of a cold front in the South and Southeast contributes to the formation of a moisture channel. According to data released by Meteored, the phenomenon favors isolated showers that may develop into localized thunderstorms in the afternoon in Mato Grosso do Sul and in the south and west of Mato Grosso.

On Tuesday (22), the cold front will be reinforced between the South, Southeast and Central-West regions. During the early morning, there is a warning for severe storms in Mato Grosso do Sul, western São Paulo and northern, western and southern Paraná.

There is also a forecast of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms in the far north of Rio Grande do Sul, eastern Santa Catarina, and central and eastern São Paulo.

In the morning, the cold front advances as it moves away towards the ocean. According to data released by Meteored, the arrival of the cold air mass reduces the potential for rain in the South and Southeast by hindering cloud formation.

Even so, light to moderate rainfall is expected in isolated areas of the midwest and north of Santa Catarina, Paraná, and the west, south, and east of São Paulo.

In the Midwest, instability continues to cause heavy rain and a risk of severe storms in the northern half of Mato Grosso do Sul and in south-central Mato Grosso.

From the afternoon onwards, rising temperatures and the persistence of the cold front over the ocean, between the South and Southeast regions, will again favor the formation of heavy rain showers and isolated thunderstorms.

The alerts cover eastern, central, and northern Paraná; southern, western, and eastern São Paulo; Rio de Janeiro; southern and southeastern Minas Gerais; Mato Grosso do Sul; and Mato Grosso.

At night, warnings of heavy rain and storms are concentrated in central and eastern São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, the extreme south and southeast of Minas Gerais, and central and northern Mato Grosso do Sul.

On Wednesday (23) and Thursday (24), the potential for heavy rain and isolated storms continues. According to data released by Meteored, from the afternoon there is a possibility of hail in the north of São Paulo, in much of Minas Gerais, except for the north of the state, as well as Espírito Santo and Goiás.

In Mato Grosso, rainfall is expected to be quite isolated. Meanwhile, in eastern São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the forecast indicates light rain or drizzle due to wind circulation associated with the presence of a cold air mass.

From Friday (25), the trend is for a reduction in the potential for rain. Still, very isolated showers may occur in the east of the Southeast, mainly between São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.
