
The harvest of corn The 2025/26 harvest is in its final stages in Argentina, but excess moisture caused by prolonged rains is hindering work in some regions. According to data released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), 96.90% of the suitable area had been harvested by September 9th, while soil moisture favors the start of planting for the 2026/27 crop.
The weekly harvest progress was 4.40 percentage points. Despite the high pace, work is 3.10 percentage points behind the same period last season due to difficulties with machinery accessing areas with higher humidity. Throughout the 2025/26 cycle, good water availability contributed to crop development and sustained the high yields recorded during the season.
According to data released by Imea, the Bolsa de Cereales maintains its projection of Argentine corn production at 64 million tons. If confirmed, the estimate will represent an increase of 30.61% compared to the 49 million tons obtained in the 2024/25 harvest and will establish a new production record in the country.
The high humidity conditions, which make harvesting corn difficult, are also affecting the next cycle. The greater availability of water in the soil is favoring the start of planting for the 2026/27 crop.

The increase was 4 percentage points compared to the previous week and was 1.70 percentage points higher than that recorded in the same period of the previous cycle. Thus, Argentina concludes the 2025/26 harvest under two distinct effects of moisture conditions. While prolonged rains hinder the work of machinery and keep the pace below that observed in the previous season, the water available in the soil creates favorable conditions for the start of planting the next crop.
The evolution of field operations in the coming weeks will be crucial for the completion of the current harvest and for the advancement of the 2026/27 corn planting in the country.
