Climate favors soybean development in most of Brazil, according to Conab.

Agricultural monitoring of summer crops indicates favorable conditions for soybean development in most producing regions of the country. The data are compiled in the latest Agricultural Monitoring Bulletin (BMA), released by the National Supply Company (Conab) on Friday (24). The document assesses the weather conditions and vegetation index (IV) of the main Brazilian crops in the period between April 1 and 21.

According to the Bulletin, the highest rainfall volumes of the season were recorded in the North region and the northern part of the Northeast region, also including eastern Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba. With the increase in soil moisture in these areas, the development of grain crops was favored.

In the North, the highest rainfall totals were recorded in Pará, eastern Amazonas, and Amapá. While the reduced rainfall delayed the soybean harvest in Pará and the rice harvest in Tocantins, it benefited the second corn crop. In the interior of the Northeast, the typical reduction in rainfall for this period interfered with the development of some crops in Bahia, Piauí, and the Sertão region of Pernambuco. Despite the localized water deficit, the overall conditions in the region were favorable.

Soil moisture also remained sufficient in the Central-West and Southeast regions, although a reduction in water storage was observed at the end of the analyzed period. In the country's largest grain-producing region, the highest rainfall levels were recorded in Mato Grosso, contributing to the second corn crop. However, the document points to a decrease in soil water reserves in areas of Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás, also observed in the Southeast region, in the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, which may affect the development of the cereal.

In the South, due to the irregular distribution of rainfall, the alert was for Paraná, which experienced water restrictions, especially in the northern part. The short period of intense rainfall also impacted the soybean and rice harvests in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. Despite this dynamic, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the current crop's IV (increased rainfall index) was higher than in previous years.

The overall outlook for the evolution of the IV (Index of Production) indicates good crop development, with values close to those of previous soybean and corn harvests. In addition to these crops, the Bulletin also presents the progress of cotton and rice planting in the main producing states.

Produced in partnership between Conab, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), and the Global Agriculture Monitoring Group (Glam), the Bulletin aims to disseminate information on agrometeorological conditions and crop monitoring, assessed through satellite imagery and field data.
