Wheat quality is a concern as rainfall increases.

The harvest of wheat Harvesting is progressing slowly in the south of the country, with quality problems, excess moisture, and increased competitiveness of imported products influencing the market. According to TF Agroeconômica, in Rio Grande do Sul, approximately 1.5% of the area had been harvested, mainly in the North, Northwest, and Missões regions, before the interruption caused by the rains.

Initial analyses indicate wheat with a pH between 75 and 77, FN above 250, gluten strength between 120 and 180, and moisture content from 20% to 24%. The main concern now is when work can resume, as the evaluated models diverge on the possibility of harvesting in the coming days. In the market, there is demand for already harvested lots that do not present low FN or high DON, with an indication of R$ 1,400 per ton in the interior. For old wheat, the reference reaches R$ 1,550.

The fall in the dollar also increases the attractiveness of imported grain. In Rio Grande do Sul, the last known price for Uruguayan wheat was US$$ 305 in Rio Grande. In Santa Catarina, the limited supply of quality wheat is a concern for mills. The expectation for the 2026/27 harvest is a reduction of approximately 35% in planted area and 2.5% in average productivity, with production estimated at 243,000 tons.

In Paraná, the new crop shows strong quality variation, with lower pH and falling number readings in some areas. Mills are already working with discount tables, while offers of Type 1 wheat have become scarcer. Paraguayan wheat reached US$ 320 in Campos Gerais, and Argentine wheat, at 11.5%, was indicated at US$ 325 in Paranaguá, increasing pressure on the domestic market.
