The Argentine harvest of corn The 2025/26 season ended with an expansion of the planted area, increased productivity, and production exceeding initial expectations, a scenario that also improves the sector's economic projections. According to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BCBA), the harvest reached 64 million tons, a volume 6 million tons higher than predicted at the beginning of the cycle.
Throughout the season, 8.4 million hectares were sown, an increase of 18.31 TP4T compared to the 2024/25 crop. The area also exceeded the initial projection of 7.8 million hectares by 600,000 hectares. Of the total cultivated area, 521 TP4T corresponded to corn planted in advance, a similar share to that recorded in the previous season.
Productivity also contributed to the crop's performance. The national average was 77.4 quintals per hectare, an increase of 5.6 quintals, or 7.81 TP4T, over the previous season. Compared to the average of the last five cycles, the increase was 14.21 TP4T. Early-planted crops reached 77.5 quintals per hectare, while late-planted areas registered 77.4 quintals. In regions such as western Buenos Aires and northern La Pampa, yields exceeded expectations and helped raise production estimates throughout the campaign.
With the increased supply, the gross product of the corn sector is expected to reach US$23.11 billion, an increase of 261TP4 compared to the previous year. Exports are projected at US$9.415 billion, a growth of 54.21TP4 compared to the previous cycle. Tax revenue related to the activity could reach US$5.252 billion, an increase of 231TP4, reflecting the effects of higher production on the sector's economic results.
