558 samples from the 2026 harvest were evaluated by 109 winemakers.

The Selection Tasting involved professionals during 20 hours of blind tastings over four days; the result remains confidential and will only be revealed on October 17th, in front of 800 wine connoisseurs from all over Brazil.

Four days – September 1st to 4th – eight shifts and 5,121 glasses served in a technical process conducted under absolute secrecy. The Selection Tasting of the 34th National Wine Evaluation – 2026 Vintage – came to an end after submitting each of the 569 samples to blind tasting by 109 oenologists (19 women). Divided into three juries per shift, the professionals had only the wine before them, without any information about the brand or winery, in a process that now allows the Brazilian Association of Oenology (ABE) to arrive at the 301 TP4T representative of each category. The result, however, remains confidential until October 17th, when it will be revealed at the great moment for Brazilian wine.

The dynamic was repeated in the morning and afternoon shifts. In each period, three juries with nine enologists each received different sets of samples. The 109 professionals participated, forming a task force that brought together different generations and trajectories of Brazilian enology. This meeting takes on special significance in 2026, the year in which ABE celebrates 50 years of working with enologists and Brazilian viticulture. Each sample was served to nine evaluators, which explains the 5,022 glasses that passed through the tables over the four days.

Without labels or any indication of origin, each wine was analyzed solely based on its presentation in the glass. The 30% wines representing each category of the 2026 vintage will be determined based on the scores given by the tasters. Until the official announcement, scores, results, and identities remain confidential at ABE.

According to the president of ABE, oenologist Mário Lucas Ieggli, the rigor employed in this stage is fundamental to the credibility built by the National Wine Evaluation throughout its history. “There is great care taken to ensure that each sample is evaluated under the same conditions and that the oenologist has before them only the wine, without any other reference. Celebrating ABE's 50th anniversary by bringing together 109 oenologists to evaluate our harvest also says a lot about the reason for the entity's existence. Different generations are sharing knowledge and assuming the responsibility of technically examining Brazilian wine. It is this collective work that gives consistency to the result we will present in October,” he emphasizes.

The results will be announced on October 17th.

The conclusion of the Selection Tasting leads to the National Wine Evaluation, a moment that brings together, in one place, those who produce, those who make, and those who appreciate Brazilian wine. On October 17th, 800 people from different regions of the country will be in Bento Gonçalves to taste the 30% wines representative of the 2026 vintage.

Among these wines, 16 samples will be selected for simultaneous public tasting. Each will be served to 800 people and commented on by a guest, who will share their perceptions of the wine without knowing its identity. The public will also remain unaware of which winery is behind each glass.

It is only at the end of the evaluation that the confidentiality will be broken and the identities of the 16 samples will be revealed. Until then, information that began to be built during the collection of samples and that has now undergone the technical judgment of the enologists remains guarded: which wines represent the 30% representative of each category of the 2026 vintage.
