PT_BR Pig farming in Mato Grosso is facing a period of strong economic pressure in 2026. A survey conducted by the Pig Exchange of the Mato Grosso Pig Breeders Association (Acrismat) indicates a significant drop in the price paid to producers, without this reduction being perceived by the final consumer in supermarkets and butcher shops.
According to Acrismat, in January of this year, the price per kilogram of live swine was R$ 8.00. This week, the price fell to R$ 5.80, a reduction of 27.5%. This is the lowest level recorded since April 25, 2024, when the price was R$ 5.60 per kilogram.
Frederico Tannure Filho, president of Acrismat: “We are observing a drop of approximately 30% in the price of live pigs and also in the price of carcasses, but this is not being passed on to the consumer.”
Despite the significant drop in both live pig and carcass prices, this trend has not been mirrored in retail. According to the production sector, pork prices in supermarkets and butcher shops remain high, preventing the end consumer from benefiting from the reduction.
Another point of concern is the increase in production costs. Currently, pig farmers in Mato Grosso are accumulating an estimated loss of around R$ 60.00 per animal sent for slaughter, which compromises the sustainability of the activity.
The president of Acrismat, Frederico Tannure Filho, highlights the need for greater balance in the production chain and makes an appeal to the retail sector:
“We are observing a drop of approximately 30% in the price of live pigs and also in carcass prices, but this is not being passed on to the consumer. It is important that retailers follow this trend, reducing prices at the point of sale. In this way, we can stimulate pork consumption and, at the same time, mitigate the impacts faced by producers,” he states.
The organization emphasizes that the reduction in consumer prices can contribute to increased demand, helping to rebalance the market and minimize losses in the field. Acrismat also requests support and awareness from all links in the supply chain to overcome the current crisis in the sector.
