Soybean planting is progressing in the Central and Southern regions, but remains slow in the Northern region of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Planting of the 2026/2027 soybean crop is progressing at different paces in Mato Grosso do Sul. While the Central and Southern regions are showing progress in operations, the Northern region is still experiencing slower development, mainly due to irregular rainfall.

According to monitoring by the SIGA-MS Project, planting has reached 18% of the monitored area in the state. The Southern region shows the greatest progress, with 25.3% of the planted area, followed by the Central region, with 11.4%. In the Northern region, planting still represents less than 0.4% of the area.

“In the South-Central region, the moisture conditions have allowed for a faster progression of operations, while the North region still depends on a regularization of rainfall. For the producer, monitoring soil conditions and weather forecasts remains fundamental to defining the pace of operations and reducing risks during crop establishment,” points out Lucas Santana, technical analyst at Aprosoja/MS.

The survey suggests that planting will pick up pace in the northern region starting in the second half of October, provided rainfall becomes more regular.

In addition to the availability of water in the soil, the timing of sowing requires attention to the conditions for plant emergence. In areas that have already received more regular rainfall, the moisture has favored crop establishment, although excessive precipitation in a short period can also cause surface soil sealing and hinder seedling emergence.

The SIGA-MS Project estimates an area of 4.874 million hectares destined for soybean cultivation in the 2026/2027 crop year, an increase of 5.51 TP4T compared to the previous cycle. The projected average productivity is 52.4 sacks per hectare, with an expected production of 15.331 million tons.

Corn harvest in its final stages.

While soybean harvesting begins to advance in the fields, the 2025/2026 second-crop corn harvest is practically complete in Mato Grosso do Sul. According to a survey conducted by the SIGA-MS Project, as of October 2nd, 99.96% of the monitored area had already been harvested.

In most of the state, the operation is complete. Only isolated areas in the Southern Border and Southwestern regions remain, where harvesting is still underway.

Productivity observed in the areas evaluated during the week ranged from 35 to 184 sacks per hectare, maintaining positive prospects for state production. With the updated field data, the productivity estimate rose to 122.79 sacks per hectare and the projected production reached 16.253 million tons.

The progress of the harvest concludes the second corn crop cycle and opens up space for the planting of soybean areas, especially in regions where moisture conditions already allow the start of operations.
