Cattle slaughter in Mato Grosso totaled 526,680 head in slaughterhouses with SIF certification in August 2026, according to data released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), based on information from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa). The volume increased by 0.45% compared to July, but decreased by 9.91% compared to August 2025.
The monthly result was supported by the higher slaughter of male cattle. According to data released by Imea, this category reached 343,490 head in August, an increase of 4.801 TP4T compared to July and 0.531 TP4T compared to the same month of the previous year. Therefore, male cattle accounted for 65.221 TP4T of the total slaughtered in Mato Grosso that month.
Conversely, the slaughter of female cattle totaled 183,190 head in August. This volume represents a decrease of 6,82% compared to the previous month and 24,59% compared to August 2025.
The share of females in the total number of cattle slaughtered fell to 34,78%, according to data released by Imea.
Thus, despite the moderate increase in total slaughter compared to July, the lower number of females sent to slaughterhouses kept the result below that observed in 2025 and left the slaughter more concentrated on males.
According to data released by Imea, this trend also places the evolution of breeding stock retention among the relevant factors for the cattle market in Mato Grosso.
The retention of breeding stock tends to limit the supply of animals for the industry, a scenario that may contribute to supporting the price per arroba (a unit of weight for cattle).
The data therefore show a change in the composition of slaughter in the state. While the volume of males increased in both monthly and annual comparisons, the number of females sent to slaughterhouses showed a significant decrease.
