Producers hold back rice sales during planting season.

The prices of rice Prices for unhulled sugarcane remain practically stable in Rio Grande do Sul, with the return of purchases for export partially offsetting weak domestic demand. According to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), this trend has primarily benefited lower-yielding lots, while domestic market trading remains limited.

Despite the overall stability of prices, price behavior varies according to the region and the product's quality standard. External demand has helped sustain certain batches, but the pace of purchases by Brazilian industries remains low.

According to researchers at Cepea, the low demand for processed rice has limited the industries' interest in expanding their raw material purchases. In some negotiations, buyers report a drop in the price per bag, a situation that further restricts the possibility of adjustments in the prices paid for paddy rice.

Another factor influencing the market is the level of supply from companies. Some industries still have stock acquired in previous weeks, which reduces the need for new purchases. Even when specific demands arise, buyers have avoided raising offers and prefer to wait for more price stability.

On the supply side, the planting of the new crop is the focus of attention for some producers in Rio Grande do Sul. According to Cepea, sales have been primarily aimed at covering current expenses and planting-related costs.

Producers with greater access to financial resources are showing less willingness to negotiate at the price levels currently offered, contributing to restricting the volume of business.
