Soybeans: production costs rise 6.96% in the 2026/27 crop year.

The cost of producing soy In Mato Grosso, yields increased by 6.961 TP4T in the 2026/27 harvest, reaching R$ of 8,210.31 per hectare in October 2026. According to data released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), the increase was mainly driven by higher spending on mechanized operations and agricultural pesticides, while risks associated with El Niño could put pressure on productivity and reduce producers' revenue.

The survey is part of the Agricultural Production Costs in Mato Grosso project, developed by the National Rural Learning Service of Mato Grosso (Senar-MT) and Imea. The data show that the increase in expenses requires attention to financial planning and the marketing strategy for the next harvest.

The main factor exerting downward pressure was the increase in spending on mechanized operations, which grew by 23.85% compared to the previous cycle. According to data released by Imea, this movement reflects the effects of conflicts in the Middle East, coupled with the rise in prices of agricultural pesticides, which increased by 10.10%.

With the increase in expenses, the cost of production also rose. In the 2026/27 crop year, the indicator closed at R$ 4,324.87 per hectare, an increase of 3.43% compared to the previous season, equivalent to an increase of R$ 143.61 per hectare.

However, the pressure on costs was partially offset by a 21,96% drop in seed prices. According to data released by Imea, this reduction helped to limit the increase in total production expenses.

In addition to increased costs, producers need to consider the climate risks for the cycle. The prospect of lower productivity associated with El Niño could compromise gross revenue, especially if production per hectare falls below expectations.

In this scenario, setting the selling price becomes crucial for the profitability of the activity. With higher expenses and uncertainties about crop yields, monitoring prices and evaluating marketing opportunities will be fundamental for soybean producers in Mato Grosso.
