New fungicide promises productivity gains in soybeans.

Controlling Asian soybean rust and other diseases of soy This gains importance given the forecast of climatic conditions favorable to the spread of fungi. In this scenario, Sipcam Nichino Brasil launched the fungicide Cortina Gold, which combines the active ingredients prothioconazole and chlorothalonil in a ready-to-use mixture.

According to researcher Carlos Eduardo Valente, from the consulting firm Multcrop, trials conducted with the product recorded productivity gains of up to 12 sacks per hectare compared to areas without fungicide application. The evaluations also indicated positive results in controlling various diseases.

Plant pathologist Carlos Forcelini, from Agro Techno Research, highlighted the technology's performance against rust, leaf spots, and powdery mildew. The researcher also warned that, in El Niño years, the higher humidity can accelerate the onset of these diseases, requiring earlier applications.

According to Eric Ono, portfolio manager at Sipcam Nichino, the product showed comparable performance to triple mixtures in field trials, in addition to a low risk of phytotoxicity. The company recommends its use especially during flowering and pod formation, periods considered important for protecting soybean productivity.

“In the Cerrado region, even with the expectation of less rainfall, producers should not neglect the target spot disease, already present in the field in the crop residues from the previous harvest,” warns Eric Ono. “Cortina® Gold is perfectly suited for applications during the flowering and pod formation stages, essential phases for protection against target spot disease and prevention of rust infestation,” he concludes.
