A survey by Cepea shows that pig farmers in São Paulo are experiencing the most favorable moment in over 20 years regarding the purchase of soybean meal, which is one of the main inputs used in the activity.
Data from Cepea shows that, with the sale of one kilogram of live pig in the Campinas region (SP), the producer was able to buy 5.57 kilograms of soybean meal in September, the largest quantity recorded by the Research Center since December 2004, when the exchange rate reached a record of 6.49 kilograms.
It is also worth noting that the current purchasing power is 54% above the average of the Cepea historical series, which began in January 2024, and is 3.62 kilograms.
In addition to firmer live pig selling prices – the average price per animal in September, at R$ 9.25/kg, was the highest of 2025 – this favorable scenario for pig farmers is influenced by the recent sharp declines in soybean meal prices.
Surveys by the Cepea Grain Team show that the price per ton of the derivative traded in the Campinas region averaged R$ 1,660.53 in September, which is 21.7% lower than that recorded in the same period last year.
