Pig farming in Mato Grosso do Sul has just been recognized as one of the most sustainable in the country. Estância Colorada, located in Jateí (MS), won 3rd place in the medium-sized category of the 2025 Sustainable Farm Award, promoted by Globo Rural magazine. The initiative values properties that manage to combine efficient production with social, environmental and economic responsibility. In 2025, 114 farms from 20 states participated in the award, and Mato Grosso do Sul stood out with 22 entries. After evaluation by experts, Estância Colorada, owned by producer Celso Phillippi Junior, secured its place among the 15 best in Brazil.
Linked to the South Mato Grosso Swine Producers Association (Asumas), affiliated with the Brazilian Association of Swine Breeders (ABCS), the property participates in both the Leitão Vida Program and the Asumas Sustainability Program (PAS), which evaluates practices related to the rational use of resources, waste management, and social responsibility. The balance between diversified production and environmental preservation was decisive for this recognition. There are 270 hectares in total, with 66 hectares dedicated to conservation, while the remainder houses activities related to animal protein production. The strongest point is modern swine farming, focused on biosecurity, animal welfare, and the reduction of environmental impacts.
For Marcelo Lopes, president of ABCS, the achievement symbolizes the sector's progress: “This award is a source of pride for the entire swine industry. This recognition shows that Brazilian swine farming is prepared to grow in an innovative and responsible way, meeting society's expectations.” The president of Asumas, Renato Spera, also celebrated the achievement. According to President Renato Spera, “It is an honor for us at Asumas to see a producer from Mato Grosso do Sul among the most sustainable in Brazil. The award is a clear sign that the path of swine farming involves responsibility, technology, and commitment to the future,” he emphasized.
