The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) released an official note this Friday (16) ensuring that there are no generalized restrictions on exports of poultry products from Rio Grande do Sul, after confirmation of an isolated case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (IAAP) in a poultry breeding farm in the municipality of Montenegro (RS).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, the rapid identification of the outbreak and the immediate adoption of isolation, control and eradication measures demonstrate the robustness and efficiency of the country's health defense system. The agency reiterated its commitment to transparency and quality of products exported by Brazil, highlighting that all actions are being carried out in accordance with international health agreements signed with trading partners.
In international health negotiations, the Brazilian government has advocated the adoption of the principle of regionalization — a concept recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO) — which limits export restrictions to the affected area, generally within a radius of up to 10 kilometers from the outbreak. Countries such as Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the Philippines already recognize this model, allowing only areas close to the outbreak to have trade restrictions.
However, the Ministry of Agriculture explained that agreements with partners such as China and the European Union determine the temporary suspension of exports at the national level in cases of IAAP, which is being respected. Even so, the Ministry reinforces that Brazilian poultry meat production is highly professionalized, with strict sanitary controls, which sustains the confidence of importers.
“When the requirements are related to the health and quality of products, Brazil is committed to strictly following established international protocols, guaranteeing the safety and trust of our commercial partners,” highlighted the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.
Brazil is the largest global exporter of chicken meat and has a territory of continental dimensions, which reinforces the importance of recognizing regionalization as a technical criterion in commercial decisions.
The Ministry thanked the international trust in the Brazilian health system and made its technical staff available to provide all necessary clarifications.
