The demand for corn In Mato Grosso, the total is expected to reach 54.04 million tons (million tons) in the 2026/27 harvest, a decrease of 7.411 TP4T compared to the previous season, according to data released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea). The domestic market is gaining ground, while exports are expected to decline due to the increased focus of the cereal on domestic consumption.
Domestic consumption is projected at 27.04 million tons, an increase of 16.231 TP4T compared to 2025/26. According to data released by Imea, the increase is mainly driven by the opening of new corn ethanol plants and the expansion of the capacity of units that are already in operation.
Conversely, exports are expected to reach 17.50 million tons, a reduction of 27.391 TP4T compared to the 2025/26 crop year. This decline reflects the greater focus of production on the domestic market and the consequent reduction in the surplus available for shipment.
Interstate consumption also remains relevant in the composition of corn demand in Mato Grosso. However, its share is expected to be lower than in the previous season, given the greater attractiveness of the cereal in the Mato Grosso market itself.
With the growth of domestic consumption, the domestic market is gaining importance in absorbing state production. According to data released by Imea, this scenario also contributes to a projection of 0.29 million tons in ending stocks, a decrease of 55,771 tons compared to 2025/26.
Thus, the 2026/27 harvest should show a change in the dynamics of corn demand in Mato Grosso, with a greater share of domestic consumption and less availability for export.
