The purchasing power of São Paulo's poultry farmer compared to... corn and to the bran of soy It fell in August and reached its lowest level since February of this year, in real terms. According to data released by Cepea, the terms of trade were pressured by the increase in the main inputs consumed in the activity, even with the recovery in egg prices.
The values considered were deflated using the IGP-DI index from July 2026. According to researchers at Cepea, the more intense increases in corn and soybean meal prices between July and August reduced the producer's purchasing power in relation to these inputs.
In relation to corn, considering the ESALQ/BM&FBovespa Indicator, a box of white eggs allowed a poultry farmer in São Paulo to purchase 128.49 kilograms of the cereal in August. Conversely, the sale of a box of red eggs made it possible to buy 128.86 kilograms of corn during the same period.
According to data released by Cepea, both volumes were 1.3% below those recorded in July. The result represents the second consecutive decline in the purchasing power of São Paulo's poultry farmers relative to corn. According to Cepea researchers, the exchange rate reached its lowest levels since February, considering values in real terms.
Despite the recovery in egg prices in August, the more intense appreciation of corn and soybean meal reduced the purchasing power of the protein in relation to the main inputs used in production.
The movement reinforces the pressure exerted by feed costs on poultry farming in São Paulo, especially given the increased value of the components used in formulating diets.
