Weak demand puts pressure on corn and prices fall in April

Corn prices have been falling since the beginning of April in most regions monitored by Cepea.

According to the Research Center, the pressure comes mainly from weakened demand. Consumers, who were well supplied and were paying attention to the first harvest, have stopped buying, waiting for new drops.

Sellers are now more active in the national spot market, trying to negotiate new lots, fearing that the pace of price declines will intensify. Others, however, continue to limit the volume offered, keeping an eye on the development of the second harvest.

According to Cepea researchers, in recent days, the return of rain in parts of the producing regions has improved expectations about the development and production of the second harvest.

Furthermore, logistical difficulties have decreased, given the greater supply of trucks.
