Pig breeding is increasing in Paraná, and exports are supporting the rise in beef prices.

Pig farming in Paraná has registered significant growth in the breeding of animals intended for reproduction. According to data from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), there was an increase of 33.9% in this segment, with emphasis on the Gross Production Value (VBP) of female pigs, which grew by 5.5%, totaling R$ 668.4 million, and of breeding males, which showed an increase of 145%, reaching R$ 395.5 million in 2024.

According to analyst Priscila Marcenovicz, the numbers reinforce the strategic importance of pig breeding in the state's economy. Ouro Verde do Oeste leads the state ranking, with 21.6% of production, followed by Toledo (16.7%) and São Pedro do Iguaçu (8.9%).

In the beef sector, exports continue to support meat prices. In August, Brazil shipped 295,000 tons, generating US$1.6 billion. The product was traded at US$5.40/kg, a value higher than the US$4.35/kg recorded in the same period of the previous year. In the domestic market, prices also remain firm: in the Paraná wholesale market, the forequarter was traded at R$18.33/kg and the hindquarter at R$24.95/kg, increases of 32% and 15%, respectively, compared to 2024.

Chicken at a lower cost

The cost of producing live chickens raised in climate-controlled poultry houses showed a slight decrease in Paraná. According to the Poultry and Swine Intelligence Center (CIAS/Embrapa), the average value of R$ 4.59/kg in August was 0.2% below that recorded in July, but 1.3% above August 2024. Even so, the state maintains lower costs than Santa Catarina (R$ 5.08/kg) and Rio Grande do Sul (R$ 5.04/kg).

In the accumulated figures for 2025, the ICPFrango (Chicken Production Cost Index) registered a negative variation of 4.09%, reflecting the drop in expenses with feed and genetics, although there was an increase in electricity costs. Poultry feed, the main component of the cost, was R$ 2.94/kg, representing 64.05% of the total — 3.97% less than in the previous year.

The average nominal price of live chicken to the producer was R$ 4.92/kg in August, a decrease of 1.8% compared to July, but 6% above the value practiced in 2024, indicating stability and competitiveness in Paraná's poultry industry.
