Meat exports from Mato Grosso grew by 43.12% between January and November 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Considering combined external sales of beef, pork, and poultry, the state jumped from approximately US$$ 2.7 billion last year to US$$ 3.85 billion this year, consolidating the sector as one of the main drivers of Mato Grosso's trade balance.
The increase was driven mainly by beef, which remains the flagship of state exports. From January to November 2025, Mato Grosso exported US$3.62 billion in beef, compared to US$2.45 billion in the same period of 2024. Even with the reduction in the number of slaughters, which went from 7.14 million head in 2024 to 5.39 million in 2025, the increase in revenue reflects the appreciation of the product and strong international demand, especially from China, the main destination for the state's beef.
Pork also contributed to the positive performance. Exports increased from US$$ 59.97 million between January and November 2024 to US$$ 68.55 million in the same period of 2025. Although the number of slaughters decreased from 2.79 million to 2.07 million head, the sector maintained growth in value, driven by the expansion of buyer markets, especially in Asia.
In the poultry segment, Mato Grosso exported US$167.17 million in 2025, compared to US$190.72 million in the previous year. Despite the decrease in the value exported and in the quantity of chickens slaughtered — which fell from 211.87 million to 158.13 million head — chicken meat remains a relevant component of the state's export agenda, with a consolidated presence in markets in the Middle East and Asia.
Data compiled by the Data Hub of the State Secretariat for Economic Development (Sedec) indicates that, even with adjustments to the volume of slaughter in 2025, Mato Grosso significantly increased its revenue from meat exports. The result highlights gains in competitiveness, international appreciation of animal proteins, and the strength of the state's production chain, which continues to support economic growth and the state's integration into key global markets.
According to Paulo Bellicanta, president of the Mato Grosso Meat Processing Industry Union, the growth in total meat exports demonstrates a strengthening of the Mato Grosso meat processing industry in the international market. He believes the performance reflects a combination of increased product value, consolidation of strategic markets, and greater commercial efficiency of exporting plants. "The result shows that Mato Grosso has managed to transform productive competitiveness into revenue. Even with adjustments in volume, especially in slaughtering, exports grew because the state increased value, diversified destinations, and consolidated Mato Grosso meat as a reliable product in the global market," he assessed.
Bellicanta highlights that the increase in beef exports, coupled with the growth of pork and the continued presence of poultry farming in consolidated markets, demonstrates the strength of the state's protein portfolio. "When we look at all meat products, the growth is consistent. This indicates that the sector is less dependent solely on volume and more oriented towards commercial strategy, prices, and market access," he stated.
