Pioneering program from Mato Grosso is highlighted at the largest food fair in Asia

An innovative program developed in Mato Grosso gained international prominence when it was presented last Tuesday (20) during Sial Shanghai, the largest food and beverage fair in Asia and the third largest in the world, which brought together more than 180 thousand professionals from 110 countries. The Green Passport, created by the Mato Grosso Meat Institute (Imac) in partnership with the public and private sectors, was presented during the fair at the “Brazil-China Sustainable Beef Trade Conference”.

President of Imac, Caio Penido: “The Green Passport offers the necessary tools for livestock farmers with irregularities to organize themselves and produce responsibly, meeting the criteria of global markets”

Launched in 2022, the Green Passport aims to increase the value of meat produced in the state, promoting the adaptation of livestock farming to environmental standards and reinserting producers into the formal market. The initiative also seeks to boost exports, especially to markets that seek monitorable sustainability standards.

“We will show the world that, in Mato Grosso, sustainability is not a trend or a niche, it is a reality. The Green Passport offers the necessary tools for livestock farmers with irregularities to organize themselves and produce responsibly, meeting the criteria of global markets,” says the president of Imac, Caio Penido.

During the presentation at Sial Shanghai, the main criteria for joining the Green Passport Program were detailed, which, in an inclusive, phased manner and aligned with the national plan, aims to achieve monitoring of the state's cattle, from birth to slaughter, demonstrating compliance with environmental and labor legislation, in addition to the commitment to the regeneration of illegally deforested areas.

To support producers in this process, Imac offers the Reinsertion and Monitoring Program, with technical guidance and tools aimed at environmental regularization. In the last three years alone, more than 1,400 hectares have been recovered, allowing several livestock farmers to once again sell their production on the formal market.

Recognized as one of the leading international trade fairs, Sial Shanghai is the gateway to the food and beverage market in China and connects exhibitors with qualified buyers from around the world. The fair has seen continued growth in the participation of representatives from Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam, markets considered strategic and rapidly expanding in the consumption of beef protein.

Through an integrated marketing and relationship strategy, the fair strengthens brands, expands commercial partnerships and generates opportunities that go far beyond the days of the exhibition. “That is why it is important for Imac to participate in this conference on sustainable beef. If they want sustainable meat, we have it. Quality meat that preserves biodiversity by law and is low carbon due to its tropical climate and mostly pasture-based system. And now we will be able to prove it”, concludes Caio Penido.
