Corn costs are rising in Mato Grosso, and the price per sack no longer covers the Total Operating Cost, according to Imea.

The Imea (Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics) released a report highlighting updates on the corn harvest in the state. The survey notes that the cost of corn for the 2025/26 harvest in August 2025 closed at R$ 3,295.32 per hectare, an increase of 0.48% compared to the previous month.

The Effective Operating Cost increased by 0.33% in the month, being projected at R$ 4,782.75 per hectare. Thus, the Total Operating Cost reached R$ 5,372.17/ha for the season, an increase of 0.28% compared to July/25.

"Therefore, when analyzing the Break-Even Point of production cost indicators for the next harvest, in comparison to the weighted price of corn from the 25/26 cycle up to August/25, of R$ 44.43/sc, it is verified that the current value covers the expenses of the Break-Even Point of Production Costs and COE," highlights Imea.

However, the publication points out that, with the 13.92% increase in the COT's PE compared to the previous year, the weighted price of the cereal is no longer sufficient to cover these expenses.

"This movement indicates that the producer is facing difficulties in fully covering depreciation and owner's salary costs, which puts pressure on the operating margin and increases dependence on productivity gains or price increases for the grain," say the technicians from Imea.
