With support from Senar/MT, rural producer from Torixoréu increases milk production by 72%

In just one year, rural producer Marlos da Silva Souza saw his milk production take a significant leap. As a participant in the Technical and Management Assistance (ATeG) program in Dairy Farming, carried out by the National Rural Learning Service of Mato Grosso (Senar/MT), he increased productivity by 72%, reaching 198 liters of milk per day in March 2025 – a significant growth compared to the 115 liters per day recorded at the beginning of the project, in April 2024.

Located in Torixoréu, Fazenda Vitória faced challenges common to most small and medium-sized producers. The lack of a strategic volume reserve, the scarcity of paddocks for rotational management and the insufficient supply of pasture for the herd – even during the rainy season – limited the property's production capacity.

With the support of the Torixoréu Rural Union, in addition to the continuous and personalized technical support of the accredited technician of Senar/MT, José Leonel, the producer implemented a series of improvements that changed the farm's scenario. One of the first actions was the ensiling of the Capiaçú grass, ensuring quality food for the herds during the drought. The pasture was also completely reorganized: from just 4 paddocks, the farm now has 20 divided areas, allowing for more efficient pasture management and preserving the quality of the forage.

In addition, Marlos continuously added supplementary concentrated cows and calves and began implementing artificial insemination, reinforcing reproductive management and paving the way for an increasingly productive and technically assisted herd.

“Today I see a better future in the countryside. With the guidance I received, I was able to greatly improve production and, with that, also the family’s income. Now I can support everyone here with dignity,” says Marlos.
