Santa Catarina's exports increased by 7.6% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year. The percentage corresponds to the jump in the total value exported from US$$ 2.57 billion to US$$ 2.78 billion between January and March, that is, an increase of around US$$ 200 million. The data is released by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) of the federal government.
The 7.6% increase in exports from Santa Catarina was driven mainly by the agribusiness, timber and machinery sectors. Sales of pork (+19%) and poultry (+15%), which are the main products in Santa Catarina's export basket, recorded a significant increase. Revenue from poultry exports reached US$$ 499 million and from pork exports reached US$$ 398 million.
“Santa Catarina’s products are excellent. The whole world wants to buy what we produce here. The numbers alone prove this. The producers are committed to this dedication and the state is also committed to helping. We created Estrada Boa, the Secretariat of Ports, Airports and Railways, all to ensure better infrastructure for those who choose to produce here,” highlighted Governor Jorginho Mello.
Another sector that performed well was the export of partially processed wood, with an increase of 20% in the quarter, reaching US$$ 127 million in revenue in 2025. Agribusiness segments such as tobacco (+154%), processed and smoked meats (+81%) and soybean meal (+42%) also grew. As did pumps, centrifuges, air compressors and exhaust fans (+18%) and clay and refractory construction materials (+16%).
“The first quarter of 2025 was very positive in terms of exports, with significant growth in several sectors. Santa Catarina has an industry that produces with quality and excellence, and this is recognized abroad. This growth deserves to be highlighted, especially in light of the national result, which was negative,” said the Secretary of State for Industry, Commerce and Services, Silvio Dreveck. In the country, exports fluctuated negatively -0.5% in the first quarter.
United States and China are the main buyers of SC
The main destination for Santa Catarina's exports in the first quarter was the United States, with US$1.5 billion in revenue, or 141.4 billion of the total sold by Santa Catarina. China is in second place, with US$1.5 billion or a share of 91.4 billion. Argentina (US$1.5 billion) and Japan (US$1.5 billion) follow. Chile closes the top 5 with US$1.5 billion.
Although exports to the United States (-4.2%) and China (-2.9%) shrank, Santa Catarina began to sell more to other countries. Among the main destinations, Argentina (+34%), Japan (+21%), Uruguay (+21%) and the United Kingdom (+16%) bought more products from the state. Europeans and Asians imported more meat, while South American neighbors purchased more industrialized paper and metal products.
“Santa Catarina’s economy is very diversified, which guarantees openness to various markets. In the first quarter, the state exported to almost 200 destinations around the world. This demonstrates the strength and competitiveness of our production,” adds Secretary Silvio Dreveck.
