The next summer harvest is expected to begin with a shift in the climate risk map for southern Brazil. While in previous cycles the lack of rain was the main concern, this time producers will have to monitor excess water and its impact on the crop calendar.\n<\/p>\n

According to Gabriel Rodrigues, meteorologist for the AGROTEMPO section of the Agrolink Portal, the NOAA bulletin for August 2026 indicates that El Ni\u00f1o should reach its most intense period between October and December, crucial months for the planting and development of summer crops. The chance of the phenomenon remaining in the very strong El Ni\u00f1o category during this quarter is approximately 95%.<\/p>\n

The first effects have already appeared. In July, rainfall was between 30% and 90% above average in different parts of the South. As the phenomenon may persist at least until March 2027, the summer harvest may occur under its influence.<\/p>\n

For agriculture, the greatest risk lies not only in the storms, but in the excess moisture. Waterlogged soil, fewer days for machinery to enter the market, and smaller windows for sowing, spraying, and harvesting can compromise the pace of operations.<\/p>\n

Wheat requires special attention. The peak of rainfall can coincide with grain filling and harvesting, increasing the risk of Fusarium head blight, sprouting in the ear, and loss of quality, with a reduction in hectoliter weight and falling grains. In just a few days, a crop with a good appearance can suffer commercial downgrade.<\/p>\n

The AGROTEMPO analysis reinforces that the 2026\/27 harvest will require climate monitoring throughout the entire season. Using its own meteorological data and long-term forecasts, the climate intelligence of the Agrolink Portal indicates a trend towards a rainier period between September and February in the central-southern region of the country, while areas in the Central-West, North, and Northeast may experience drier conditions than normal.\n<\/p>\n

Although above-average rainfall may benefit some crops, excess water coincides with sensitive phases of winter crops in the South, especially maturation and harvesting. This increases the pressure from fungal diseases, reduces grain quality, and can hinder field operations and the flow of production.<\/p>\n

In this scenario, seasonal forecasting gains value in planning, but it needs to be combined with radar, alerts, and short-term updates. In a harvest season with fewer days available to work in the field, monitoring the weather ceases to be merely routine and becomes an integral part of farm management.<\/p>\n
