The price of rice<\/a> The price of paddy rice registered a strong recovery in Rio Grande do Sul in August, driven by lower availability of the grain and the need for industries to replenish stocks. According to data from Cepea's Agromensal survey, the average of the CEPEA\/IRGA-RS Indicator reached R$ 74.24 per 50-kilogram bag, an increase of 15.65% compared to the R$ 64.20 recorded in July.\n<\/p>\n

The price increase trend gained momentum in the first weeks of the month. Producers consulted by Cepea made few lots available and maintained firm asking prices, while buyers encountered difficulties in replenishing stocks and, at times, had to increase their offers to stimulate new sales.<\/p>\n

The shortage of raw materials has affected the activity of industries. According to Agromensal, there were isolated cases of companies that temporarily suspended sales of processed rice because they could not acquire sufficient volume to meet new orders. Even with buyers accepting higher prices in some negotiations, liquidity remained limited due to producers' reduced willingness to sell.<\/p>\n

However, with rising prices, industry resistance to further adjustments increased. The difficulty in passing on the increased cost of raw materials to processed rice reduced the scope for raising purchase offers and widened the gap between the prices demanded by producers and buyers once again.\n<\/p>\n

In the final stretch of August, there was greater availability of the grain in some of the monitored regions, including the closing of larger lots. Even so, prices did not fall. According to Cepea, external demand gained importance during the period, mainly in the vicinity of the Port of Rio Grande, where interest in certain lots helped to keep prices supported.<\/p>\n

In areas further from the port, freight costs hindered some business deals. The location of the plots and logistical expenses began to directly influence the viability of operations, even in situations where buyers were interested.<\/p>\n

The price increase was observed in all six microregions that make up the Indicator. The largest increase occurred in the Central Depression, of 17.54%, bringing the average to R$ 70.24 per sack. In the Campanha region, the increase was 16.74%, to R$ 73.07, while the Western Border region registered an increase of 16.50%, with an average of R$ 74.78.<\/p>\n

In the Inner Coastal Plain, the average price reached R$ 76.16 per sack, an increase of 14.54%. The Southern Zone registered an advance of 13.86%, to R$ 75.52, and the Outer Coastal Plain saw an increase of 13.60%, with an average of R$ 73.78 per sack.<\/p>\n

Rain also interfered with the market during August. Agromensal points to difficulties in loading and transporting the grain in some regions, as well as occasional interruptions in the supply of electricity. The rainfall also limited soil preparation work in certain areas and increased concerns about the planting of the 2026\/27 crop.\n<\/p>\n

While paddy rice prices increased in the Rio Grande do Sul market, consumer prices moved in the opposite direction. Data from the IPCA-15, released by IBGE and presented at Cepea's Agromensal, show a drop of 0.81% in the price of rice in the data collected between June 17 and July 15. Over 12 months, the accumulated decline reached 15.06% on average nationally.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
