THE cotton<\/a> Mato Grosso maintained a central role in Brazil's performance in the international market at the beginning of the 2026\/27 commercial cycle. In August 2026, Brazil exported 106,350 tons of cotton lint, a volume 37.28% higher than that recorded in the same month of the previous year, and 58.32% of the shipments originated in Mato Grosso. This movement occurs as the production of the 2025\/26 crop reaches the market after harvesting and processing of the fiber, according to information released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea).\n<\/p>\n

Mato Grosso's participation gains importance at a time when Brazil seeks to maintain its world leadership in cotton exports. According to the report, the country has held the top position since the 2022\/23 harvest, when it surpassed the United States. For the 2026\/27 marketing cycle, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) projects that Brazilian shipments will be 24.39% higher than those of the United States.<\/p>\n

Imea estimates that Mato Grosso will export 2.09 million tons of cotton lint in the 2026\/27 commercial cycle, a volume referring to the 2025\/26 crop production. The institute highlights that, in the case of cotton, the production period and the commercial cycle do not coincide. The 2025\/26 crop, harvested from June 2026 onwards, begins to make lint available for export around August, after processing, and shipments extend through the commercial cycle from August 2026 to July 2027.<\/p>\n

In addition to the growth in exports, the marketing of production is also ongoing in the state. The 2025\/26 harvest reached 75,52% of the estimated production negotiated in August, a monthly increase of 1.52 percentage points. Even with the price increase, the pace of sales remained more cautious, according to Imea's analysis.\n<\/p>\n

According to the institute, some producers already have a portion of their production committed to previously closed contracts and, therefore, have prioritized these deliveries before taking on new commitments. This caution is also related to uncertainties about fiber quality, given the rainfall conditions recorded during the cycle. For the 2026\/27 harvest, the appreciation of cotton on the New York Stock Exchange stimulated new negotiations in Mato Grosso. This movement occurs amidst concerns about the high cost of production for the next season. The analytical text of the bulletin reports that sales reached 39.34% of the estimated production, while the average negotiated price reached R$ 140.46 per arroba, an increase of 8.43% compared to the previous month.<\/p>\n

The current season's harvest, in turn, is nearing completion. On the last Friday considered by the survey, 97.30% of the cotton areas in Mato Grosso had already been harvested, a weekly increase of 8.64 percentage points. The Imea monitoring table shows a rapid evolution throughout August, with the index rising from 41.31% at the beginning of the month to 97.30% between August 31 and September 4.<\/p>\n

Among other market indicators, the dollar fell 0.53% during the week, while polyester advanced 6.42%, following the appreciation of oil. The parity for July 2027 was R$ 161.31 per arroba, down 1.16%, while the reference for December 2027 fell 1.97%, to R$ 149.72 per arroba.\n<\/p>\n
