According to Sergio Cardoso, an analyst in the rice supply chain, it is still too early to talk about a crop failure, but the sequence of events already deserves the market&#039;s attention.\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"agk_14000_pos_3_sidebar_mobile\" style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"mb-4\">\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"agk_14000_pos_4_conteudo_desktop\" style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"d-none d-lg-block mb-md-4\">\n<\/div>\n<p>In the Philippines, cyclones and heavy rains have affected more than 62,000 hectares of farmland, with estimated losses of around 61,000 tons across various crops. Rice is among the affected products, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed.<\/p>\n<p>In India, the scenario is different, with a significant rainfall deficit during the monsoon and concerns about potential effects on productivity. Prices have already reacted, and Indian parboiled rice with 5% broken grains is trading between US$ 366 and US$ 371 per ton, close to one-year highs.\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"agk_14000_pos_4_conteudo_mobile\" style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"mb-4\">\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"agk_14000_pos_5_conteudo_desktop\" style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"d-none d-lg-block mb-md-4\">\n<\/div>\n<p>In Vietnam, attention is focused on recent rains and floods, and on water availability in the Mekong River system given the El Ni\u00f1o conditions. In China, heavy rains and typhoons continue to affect agricultural regions, although there is still insufficient evidence to indicate a significant reduction in national production.<\/p>\n<p>The assessment is that these events, in isolation, do not yet alter the global rice balance. The risk increases if India, China, Vietnam, or Thailand begin to revise their production estimates downwards. A potential reduction in India, the world&#039;s largest exporter, could have rapid repercussions on international prices.\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"agk_14000_pos_5_conteudo_mobile\" style=\"text-align: center;\" class=\"mb-4\">\n<\/div>\n<p>The situation is also of interest to Mercosur, which is starting the 2026\/27 harvest season amidst climatic uncertainties in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
