The price of finished cattle gained strength in Mato Grosso in August, but the increase in the arroba (a unit of weight) occurred at a faster pace than the rise in wholesale beef prices, reducing the relationship between prices in the two links of the chain. According to data released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), the Physical Equivalent (EF) fell by 1.80 percentage points compared to the previous month.\n<\/p>\n

By the third week of August 2026, the Physical Equivalent indicator reached 1.38%, compared to the result recorded in the same period of July. The index calculates the relationship between the wholesale price of bone-in beef and the price per arroba of live cattle in the state. The drop in the indicator reflected the more intense appreciation of the arroba in relation to the meat sold wholesale. As a result, the relationship between the values received by the industry and the cost of acquiring the raw material became narrower.<\/p>\n

According to data released by Imea, the average price of finished cattle for future delivery was R$ 328.33 per arroba up to the third week of August. This value represents a monthly increase of 3.31%. The movement was supported by the more restricted supply of animals in some regions of Mato Grosso. The lower availability of cattle for slaughter increased the support for arroba prices, while wholesale meat prices showed more moderate adjustments.\n<\/p>\n

From an industry perspective, wholesale beef prices rose at a slower pace than raw material prices. According to data released by Imea, the pace of retail purchases did not allow for the full pass-through of the price increase recorded in live cattle. This behavior reduced the ability to transmit the rise in the price per arroba (a unit of weight) to beef prices and contributed to the decline in the Physical Equivalent.<\/p>\n

For the last week of August, the expectation is for greater pressure on prices across all three links in the supply chain. According to data released by Imea, this forecast is related to lower domestic demand, a trend considered common at the end of the month.<\/p>\n

In this scenario, the combination of lower consumption and the accumulated appreciation of the arroba (a unit of weight used for cattle) could bring new adjustments to the market for finished cattle, wholesale meat, and other stages of the supply chain. The behavior of the Physical Equivalent will continue to be one of the indicators to monitor the relationship between the cost of raw materials and the prices charged by the industry.\n<\/p>\n
