S\u00c3O PAULO, July 13 (Reuters) \u2013 Mato Grosso is expected to register a record corn harvest in the 2025\/26 season, which is currently being harvested, the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) said on Monday, raising productivity estimates based on field data.<\/p>\n
The cereal harvest was estimated at 57.06 million tons, an increase of 7% compared to the June projection, according to the institute linked to the producers' federation in the state, Brazil's largest grain producer.<\/p>\n
According to Imea, the results obtained in the Mid-North region were responsible for the increase.<\/p>\n
The volume now surpasses the previous record, registered in the last harvest, when the state harvested 55.4 million tons.<\/p>\n
The improved projection was made solely by accounting for higher productivity, since the planted area remained unchanged compared to the previous survey, estimated at 7.39 million hectares, which represents an increase of 1.81 TP4T in the annual comparison.<\/p>\n
Average productivity per hectare increased from 120.28 sacks in the June projection to 128.64 sacks, surpassing the mark of the previous cycle (127.27 sacks).<\/p>\n
As of last Friday, Mato Grosso had harvested approximately 60% of planted corn, according to Imea.<\/p>\n
Imea, on the other hand, maintained its projection for the 2026\/27 soybean crop, estimated at 48.88 million sacks, versus a record 51.55 million from the previous cycle.<\/p>\n
Planting for the 2026\/27 season typically begins in mid-September.<\/p>\n
