Details were presented at the meeting of the Technical Commission for Pig Farming of the Faep System, this Monday (18), with the aim of analyzing the possibility of implementing a similar initiative in Paran\u00e1. \u201cOur State stands out in pig production, with around 1 million sows. It is necessary to think about policies that value the pig farmer, that encourage him to raise production standards and that make resources available to invest in infrastructure and innovation,\u201d says the president of the Faep System, \u00c1gide Eduardo Meneguette.<\/p>\n
Currently, Paran\u00e1 is the second-largest producer of swine in Brazil, with 12.9 million animals slaughtered in 2025, equivalent to 21% of the country's total slaughter.<\/p>\n
Deborah de Geus, president of the Technical Commission for Swine Farming of the Faep System, says that the meeting opened doors to study the technical and practical viability of the Mato Grosso do Sul model and to understand how it contributes to rural development. \u201cWe see that the producer uses this funding to improve their own activity. To participate in the program, pig farmers must meet a series of requirements classified into six pillars: social sustainability, economic sustainability, environmental sustainability, biosecurity, animal welfare, and production.<\/p>\n
Generally, the more criteria the producer fulfills, the greater the bonus they will receive for each animal slaughtered. Verification of compliance with the protocols is done through audits on rural properties. The procedure is the responsibility of the South Mato Grosso Swine Producers Association (Asumas), which issues the qualification level certificates.
