The new US tariff regime should save 46% of Brazilian products exported to the country, the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (Mdic) reported on Tuesday (24). Among the items benefited are aircraft, which will now have a zero tariff for entry into the US market.<\/p>\n

The changes come after a decision by the United States Supreme Court that struck down the so-called reciprocal tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump's administration based on national emergency legislation.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the ministry informed that, with the new executive order published on February 20, approximately 46% of Brazilian exports to the US (US$ 17.5 billion) will be exempt from any additional surcharge.<\/p>\n

Another 25% (US$$ 9.3 billion) will be subject to the global tariff of 10%. Applied based on Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, the percentage could rise to 15% at the discretion of the US government.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 29% of exports (US$ 10.9 billion) remain subject to sectoral tariffs stipulated in Section 232, a mechanism applied uniformly to various countries based on national security arguments, as in the case of steel and aluminum.<\/p>\n

Before the changes, approximately 22% of Brazilian exports were subject to surcharges of up to 40% or 50%.<\/p>\n

Aircraft<\/h4>\n

One of the main changes is the exclusion of aircraft from the new tariffs. The product will now have a zero tax rate, compared to the previous taxation of 10%.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), aircraft were the third main item in Brazil's export agenda to the United States in 2024 and 2025, with high added value and technological content.<\/p>\n

Sectors that benefit<\/h4>\n

In addition to aircraft, the ministry believes that the new regime will increase the competitiveness of various Brazilian industrial sectors in the US market.<\/p>\n

Among the sectors that will benefit are:<\/p>\n

Machinery and equipment;<\/p>\n

Footwear;<\/p>\n

Furniture;<\/p>\n

Clothing manufacturing;<\/p>\n

Wood;<\/p>\n

Chemical products;<\/p>\n

Ornamental rocks.<\/p>\n

These products will no longer face tariffs of up to 50% and will now compete under an equal tariff rate (the same for all countries) of 10%, or eventually 15%.<\/p>\n

In the agricultural sector, fish, honey, tobacco, and instant coffee are also moving from the 50% rate to the general rate of 10% (or potentially 15%).<\/p>\n

In 2025, trade between Brazil and the United States totaled US$82.8 billion, an increase of 2.2 billion compared to 2024. Brazilian exports totaled US$37.7 billion, while imports reached US$45.1 billion, generating a trade deficit of US$7.5 billion for Brazil.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) emphasizes that the data was estimated based on exports to the United States last year. According to the ministry, the calculations may vary according to technical criteria for tariff classification and the specific destination of the products.<\/p>\n
