The state of Rio Grande do Sul has a total of 38,000 hectares authorized for soybean planting outside the window stipulated by the official 2025\/2026 crop calendar. The deadline for producers to request and carry out late planting with the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (Seapi) ended on February 15th.<\/p>\n

The calendar defined by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock established the period from October 1, 2025 to January 28, 2026 for sowing the oilseed, according to the guidelines of the National Program for the Control of Asian Soybean Rust. Outside this interval, planting depends on specific authorization from the state agency.<\/p>\n

According to the head of the Plant Health Defense Division of Seapi, Deise Feltes Riffel, the increase in requests is directly linked to the climatic conditions of the last harvest and the crop rotation. "The rainy period during the corn crop caused the cycle to lengthen, delaying the planting of soybeans, which occurs immediately after the corn harvest in the same area," she states.<\/p>\n

The 38,000 hectares authorized are distributed across 78 municipalities, with the highest concentration in the Northwest and Miss\u00f5es regions. In total, there were 264 requests for planting outside the calendar period, a significantly higher number than that recorded in the 2024\/2025 crop season, when only eight requests were filed.<\/p>\n

The variation in the size of the areas is striking. The smallest authorization granted was 0.8 hectares, while the largest reached almost 9,000 hectares, showing that both small and large producers resorted to this flexibility.<\/p>\n

Despite the exceptional authorization, planting outside the sanitary window increases the phytosanitary risk, especially in relation to Asian soybean rust, the main disease of the crop. "Producers need to be vigilant and carry out treatments for Asian soybean rust, as sowing outside the official calendar is a risk factor for the emergence of this pest, increasing costs," warns Deise.<\/p>\n

According to Seapi, monitoring of authorized areas will be intensified, focusing on containing outbreaks of the disease and ensuring compliance with recommended management measures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
