Brazilian agribusiness ended 2025 with a record performance in foreign trade, consolidating itself as the main driver of the country's trade balance. According to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), analyzed in the Agro Radar by Ita\u00fa BBA Agro Consulting, the sector's exports totaled US$169.2 billion in the year, surpassing the previous record registered in 2023. Imports also reached the highest level in the series, with US$20.1 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$149.1 billion, an increase of 2.81% compared to 2024.<\/p>\n
The result reinforces the weight of agribusiness in the Brazilian economy. In 2025, the sector accounted for 491% of all revenue obtained by Brazil from exports, maintaining a high and stable share compared to the previous two years. This trajectory confirms the centrality of agriculture in the country's external performance over the last decade, with significant growth especially from 2021 onwards.<\/p>\n

The increase was driven by different production chains, especially soybeans, animal proteins, and coffee. In the soybean complex, grain shipments reached 108 million tons, a growth of 10% in volume compared to the previous year. Despite a 7% drop in the average price, to US$402.4 per ton, revenue reached US$43.53 billion. Derivatives also remained relevant: soybean meal totaled 23 million tons exported, while soybean oil remained stable at 1.4 million tons, with an increase of 11% in the average price.<\/p>\n
In the animal protein segment, the numbers were also significant. Exports of fresh beef totaled 3.1 million tons, an increase of 21% in volume, with a 17% increase in the average price, resulting in revenue of US$16.61 billion, a historical record. Fresh pork shipments reached 1.3 million tons, a growth of 12%, with revenue of US$3.37 billion. Fresh chicken shipments, however, showed a 6% decrease, a direct reflection of the avian flu outbreak in May 2025, which led to the temporary closure of important markets. Even so, considering all shipments from the poultry sector, including processed products and offal, there was a slight increase of 0.1% in total exports.<\/p>\n
Another highlight of the year was green coffee. Even with a drop of 18% in the volume shipped, the strong increase in international prices, up 60% year-on-year, led to record revenue of US$14.9 billion, expanding the product's share in the agribusiness export basket.<\/p>\n
In contrast, the sugar and ethanol complex faced a more challenging year. VHP sugar saw a 12% drop in export volume, while refined sugar fell by 10%, both impacted by a combination of lower prices and increased global supply. Ethanol also showed a 15% decrease in shipments, despite a slight increase in the average price.<\/p>\n

In analyzing the composition of the export agenda, soybeans maintained their leadership, accounting for 26% of the total value exported by agribusiness in 2025, repeating the performance of the previous year. Beef gained ground, increasing its share by 2.7 percentage points, driven by record volume and revenue. Green coffee also advanced, with an increase of 1.9 percentage points, reflecting price appreciation.<\/p>\n
Regarding destinations, China remained the main trading partner for Brazilian agribusiness, with purchases of US$55.3 billion, an increase of 11.3% compared to 2024. Soybeans, beef, and cellulose led shipments to the Chinese market. The European Union occupied second place in revenue, with US$25.2 billion, an increase of 8.6%, with coffee, soybeans, soybean meal, and cellulose as the main products. The United States accounted for 6%.7% of exports, with US$11.4 billion, a decrease of 5%.6% compared to the previous year, influenced by the tariffs still in effect on some Brazilian products.<\/p>\n
The 2025 data confirms the robustness and diversification of Brazilian agribusiness, which, even in the face of price fluctuations, sanitary barriers, and changes in the international scenario, maintained its capacity to generate foreign exchange and sustained the country's trade balance surplus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
