S\u00c3O PAULO (Reuters) \u2013 Be8, a leading biodiesel producer in Brazil, announced on Friday the signing of a contract to acquire a biofuel plant in Alto Araguaia (MT), a move that will allow the company to expand its capacity by 16.7%, to 1.7 billion liters.<\/p>\n
"With this acquisition, the company reinforces its national position, reaching approximately 15% of market share and significantly expanding our strategic presence as a renewable energy supplier in Brazil," Be8 said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The acquisition of the plant belonging to Uni\u00e3o Agroindustrial, whose value was not disclosed, is awaiting analysis by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe continue to expand our leadership in the sector,\u201d said Be8's president, Erasmo Carlos Battistella, during the signing of the commitment.<\/p>\n
In a statement to Reuters, the company said its biodiesel production in Brazil in 2025 is expected to total around 1.3 billion liters, an increase of more than 40% compared to the total produced in 2024, after the company benefited from additional capacity from three biodiesel plants acquired from Biopar at the end of last year.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the biodiesel sector experienced increased demand during part of this year, following the increase in the mandatory blending of biofuel in diesel from 14% to 15% in August.<\/p>\n
With the completion of the operation in Alto Araguaia, Be8 will have six production units in Brazil, the others being located in Passo Fundo (RS), Marialva (PR), Nova Maril\u00e2ndia (MT), Floriano (PI) and Santo Ant\u00f4nio do Tau\u00e1 (PA).<\/p>\n
The Alto Araguaia plant has a production capacity of 245 million liters of biodiesel per year.<\/p>\n
Abroad, the company also has production facilities in La Paloma (Paraguay) and Domdidier (Switzerland).<\/p>\n
In November, during COP30, Be8 signed a letter of intent to expand production at its plant in Floriano, as well as to install, at the same location, the company's second industrial unit dedicated to the production of the BeVant biofuel.<\/p>\n
