Fishing vessels that supply raw materials to the fishery products industry must now adhere to strict hygiene and sanitation standards on board to ensure access to national and international markets. These rules are standardized by SAP-Mapa Ordinance No. 310, of December 24, 2020, amended by MPA Ordinance No. 171, of December 18, 2023.<\/p>\n
Hygienic and sanitary certification proves that the vessel keeps its facilities, equipment and utensils clean, carries out pest control, takes care of the health of the crew and adopts good practices during fishing and fish storage.<\/p>\n

With the entry into force of MPA Ordinance No. 278, of June 21, 2024, certification became mandatory for vessels that supply fish to export industries, with adaptation deadlines that vary according to the species: tuna, snapper, skipjack tuna and lobster until May 2026; sardine, croaker, yellowtail snapper, shrimp, crab and other species until April 2027.<\/p>\n
In addition to complying with legislation, certification offers advantages such as adding value to the fish, facilitating the obtaining of fishing permits in certain quota categories, meeting export requirements, and increasing market competitiveness. The process is free.<\/p>\n
To obtain certification, the legal representative of the vessel must designate a Responsible Technician, adapt the vessel to hygiene and sanitation criteria, register with the National Platform for the Fish Industry (PNIP), and submit the documents and evidence to MAPA (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply). After evaluation, the Official Certificate of Good Hygienic and Sanitary Practices on Board is issued.<\/p>\n
Those wishing to export to the European Union and the United Kingdom must also obtain the Official Fishing Vessel Certificate of Conformity, guaranteeing that the operation meets international standards.<\/p>\n
