The Goi\u00e1s Agricultural Defense Agency (Agrodefesa) reports that it is investigating the death of a black swan, which occurred on the afternoon of last Sunday (08\/06) at the Goi\u00e2nia Zoo. The Agency was notified by the park's administration and immediately adopted the necessary zoosanitary measures, according to the protocols of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa). \u00a0<\/p>\n
\nState agricultural inspectors from Agrodefesa collected samples, which were sent to the Federal Laboratory of Agricultural Defense (LFDA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA) in Campinas (SP) for laboratory analysis. The animal, which was part of the zoo's herd, lived in the wild at the site.<\/p>\n
\nThe investigation aims to confirm or rule out the presence of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza virus (H5N1), as provided for in national animal health surveillance protocols. The occurrence was registered in the Brazilian Veterinary Surveillance and Emergency System (Sisbravet).<\/p>\n
\nAs a preventive measure, the Goi\u00e2nia Zoo will remain temporarily closed until the results of the tests are released. The estimated time for completion of the reports is 10 business days, depending on the demand of the LFDA.<\/p>\n
\nDuring this period of zoosanitary closure, the birds in the zoo cannot be transferred from the site and must be inspected daily, the movement of employees on site must be restricted to those necessary for the maintenance of the Park, subject to the adoption of biosecurity measures, and the establishment must remain closed to the public until the closure is determined.<\/p>\n
\nIf any birds are found showing clinical signs or death, Agrodefesa must be notified immediately. If any of them show symptoms, new samples will be collected and sent to the MAPA laboratory.<\/p>\n
\nAgrodefesa reinforces that all actions strictly follow the technical protocols established for the prevention, control and eventual containment of diseases that affect wild and domestic fauna. The Agency also emphasizes that it is the official body responsible for animal health in Goi\u00e1s and will conduct all investigations, following the protocols established by Mapa.<\/p>\n
