Climatempo: Frost advances across Brazil this Friday with intense cold<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe advance of an intense polar air mass over Brazil dropped temperatures this Thursday, May 29, 2025. The cold front that was acting has advanced, but the cold air associated with the system remains active and should continue to influence the weather in the coming days. The big highlight now is the forecast of widespread frost this Friday (30) in several regions of the country.<\/p>\n

Thursday started off cold with records in several capitals
\nThe cold started to get really cold early in the morning. The polar air mass advanced continentally and caused new minimum temperature records for the year in several Brazilian capitals. Curitiba recorded 5.8\u00b0C, Campo Grande 6.6\u00b0C, Porto Alegre 8.5\u00b0C, S\u00e3o Paulo 12.4\u00b0C and Cuiab\u00e1 14\u00b0C, all temperatures below the previous records of 2025. And the cold has not yet reached its peak.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

For this Friday (30), the expectation is for an even greater drop in temperatures, with the possibility of new records and the formation of frost in several areas. Minimum temperatures of 3\u00b0C are forecast in Curitiba, 5\u00b0C in Campo Grande, 7\u00b0C in Porto Alegre and 9\u00b0C in S\u00e3o Paulo. In addition to the historic records in the capitals, there was snowfall in the mountains of southern Brazil. In the Serra Catarinense, cities such as Urupema (with -1\u00b0C) and S\u00e3o Joaquim recorded snowflakes at dawn. In the Serra Ga\u00facha, snowflakes also appeared in S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Ausentes, S\u00e3o Francisco de Paula, Bom Jesus and Cambar\u00e1 do Sul.<\/p>\n

\nFriday will be marked by widespread frost<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWith the cold air dominating, frost will be the most anticipated phenomenon this Friday. It occurs when the temperature near the ground reaches values equal to or below 4\u00b0C, and the humidity in the air settles directly in the solid state, forming ice crystals on surfaces such as roofs, cars, grass and crops.<\/p>\n

Ideal atmospheric conditions \u2014 clear skies, calm winds and dry air \u2014 should favor the formation of widespread frost, from the center-south of Mato Grosso do Sul to Campanha Ga\u00facha, in the extreme south of the country. The cold will be so intense and widespread that even high areas of the Serra da Mantiqueira, such as Campos do Jord\u00e3o (SP), may register occasional frosts, especially in valleys and lowlands of the highest areas where the cooling is more pronounced.<\/p>\n

With widespread frost forecast for this Friday, it is important that the population take extra precautions. Dressing warmly, avoiding the use of improvised heating sources and protecting vulnerable people are essential measures. Drivers should be extra careful in the early hours of the day, especially in areas where there is a risk of slippery roads.
