In Brazil, the production of green mung bean is incipient, but the trend is growing due to the increased demand for bean sprouts. The plant is an annual, erect or semi-erect, with stem, branches and leaves covered in hairs, and with a height that varies from 0.3 to 1.5 m.

The Brazilian states that produce green mung are: Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Tocantins, Bahia and Piauí.
Mato Grosso has seen a large increase in production areas.

About 95% of the production goes to the foreign market.

Cultivation and Harvest
  • Planting period: In the Central West, most of the planting is of the second crop and is implemented after the soybean harvest. In the Southeast, planting is done between October and December.
  • Harvest period: The harvest takes place between July and September in the Central West and between February and April in the Southeast.
  • Region that produces the most: Bahia and Minas Gerais are the largest producers.
