The market of corn In Mato Grosso, exports gained momentum in August 2026, with increased exports and negotiations for the 2025/26 harvest. The state shipped 2.99 million tons in the month, an increase of 89.48% compared to July, while the greater availability of the grain after the end of the harvest favored the flow of production. At the same time, domestic demand remained relevant for price formation, according to information released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) in its September 7 bulletin.
Data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), presented by Imea, shows that shipments from Mato Grosso grew significantly from July to August. Despite the monthly recovery, the exported volume was 24,95% below that recorded in August 2025. The institute attributes this difference mainly to the greater focus of production on the domestic market, where stronger demand has sustained prices and increased the competitiveness of domestic sales compared to exports.
Even with strong domestic consumption, the international market is expected to continue playing an important role in the distribution of production. Imea estimates that Mato Grosso will export 24.10 million tons of corn of the 2025/26 season. Of this total, approximately 19.53 million tons still need to be shipped in the next ten months, an amount 3.50% higher than that observed in the same period of the previous cycle. Therefore, the institute expects shipments to accelerate in the coming months to absorb part of the available supply in the state.
In the marketing analysis, the bulletin's analytical text reports that sales of corn from the 2025/26 crop reached 74.63% of production in August, an increase of 10.69 percentage points in the month. Despite this increase, Imea assesses that negotiations occurred gradually, due to the lower participation of industries in purchases and the reduced need to replenish stocks. The average price negotiated during the period was R$ 51.61 per sack.
The external environment also helped support prices. In the United States, strong demand for corn and the prospect of tighter ending stocks supported prices. Furthermore, the worsening conditions of US crops during August increased uncertainties about the crop's yield potential and strengthened prices in Chicago, a movement that also contributed to the prices observed in Mato Grosso.
For the 2026/27 season, the report indicates that sales advanced 4.60 percentage points in the month, reaching 15.96% of projected production, with an average price of R$ 50 per sack. According to Imea, advance sales continue at a slower pace due to uncertainties related to crop development and the productive potential of the next harvest, a scenario that keeps producers more cautious in future negotiations.
The indicators monitored by the Institute also showed appreciation in the futures market. In the last week analyzed, corn in the current B3 contract rose 0.36% and was quoted, on average, at R$ 71.90 per sack. In Chicago, the sack of cereal showed an appreciation of 2.15%, with the current contract closing the period at US$ 5.17 per bushel. The dollar, on the other hand, fell 0.53%, to an average of R$ 5.14 per dollar.
