The return of wetter conditions to coffee-producing regions brought positive signs for the 2026/27 crop at the beginning of September, while also contributing to increased pressure on prices. According to data released by Cepea, the rains favored the development of crops in different areas of the country, while prices for Arabica and Robusta have fallen in recent days.
The effects of the rainfall are already beginning to appear in the fields. Some regions have recorded a more significant opening of flowers, mainly in robusta coffee plantations. In arabica producing areas, this movement is expected to gain momentum. According to the Research Center, there is an expectation of flowers opening in some regions in the coming days.
For Robusta coffee, humidity also plays an important role in a later stage of plant development. Researchers highlight that the rains have been helping both the setting of flowers and the development of the small fruits that had already formed. While the weather improves the prospects for the next cycle, the market faces pressure with the increased availability of the Brazilian product. According to Cepea, the harvest is practically complete, expanding the national supply at this time.
The combination of increased coffee availability and more favorable expectations for the 2026/27 harvest, given the rains in producing regions, weighed on negotiations. According to data released by Cepea, this scenario led to a drop in Arabica and Robusta coffee prices in recent days. Thus, the market is now simultaneously monitoring the progress of flowering and rainfall patterns, while the supply of the recently harvested crop remains high and the prospects for the next cycle are gaining strength.
