São Paulo: Rainfall could exceed 100 mm this week

Rain in São Paulo is expected to persist throughout this week, with recurring precipitation, the possibility of storms, and accumulations that could exceed 100 mm by the end of the period. This Tuesday (8), the weather remains cloudy in the south-central and eastern parts of São Paulo, with light rain starting in the morning. From the afternoon onwards, rainfall decreases in these areas, while new instabilities form in the north of the state, with the potential for showers of up to strong intensity.

On Wednesday (9), a more unstable region forms between the South, Southeast and Midwest. In the south-central and east of São Paulo, including the capital, rain showers and thunderstorms may occur as early as the morning.

In the west and in regions near Paraná, light rain is expected. At the end of the period, there is a risk of heavy rain and storms in the central and eastern parts of the state. In northern São Paulo, the rain should be light to moderate in intensity.

Starting in the afternoon, the instability will intensify. According to data released by Meteored, there is a warning for heavy rain and storms in the northeast, central, south, and east of São Paulo, while the rest of the state should experience light rain.

During the night, showers and storms only put the far north of São Paulo state on alert.

On Thursday (10), the scenario changes with the formation process of an extratropical cyclone. According to data released by Meteored, the phenomenon reinforces the instabilities over São Paulo and causes an increase in temperatures due to the intensification of northerly winds.

In the morning, cloud cover is expected to prevail in the northeast, south, and east of the state, with the possibility of light and isolated rain. From the afternoon onwards, however, instability will develop across the entire state of São Paulo.

There is a warning for heavy rain and storms that could be severe. According to data released by Meteored, the greatest risk is concentrated in the central, northern, and western portions of São Paulo.

At night, the risk of storms remains high in the north and central portions. In the east, including the metropolitan region of the capital, the risk is also considered to be of high severity.

On Friday (11), the extratropical cyclone will already be taking shape in southern Brazil. According to data released by Meteored, the northerly flow will become more intense and will contribute to improved weather in much of São Paulo.

Therefore, dry weather should prevail in the north, center, and west of the state throughout the day. In the morning, the forecast indicates light rain only in the eastern areas.

From the afternoon onwards, however, heavy showers may hit eastern and northeastern São Paulo state, with the possibility of thunderstorms.

During the night, the cold front associated with the extratropical cyclone will form and affect the area between São Paulo and Paraná. According to data released by Meteored, there is a warning for heavy rain and a risk of severe storms in western São Paulo and the border regions with Paraná.

The cold front is expected to reach the capital between late night and early morning, bringing the possibility of strong winds and heavy rain showers.

Over the weekend, the alerts will no longer be in effect, but instability will remain in the east and south of São Paulo. According to data released by Meteored, there is a possibility of light rain throughout Saturday (12) and Sunday (13), mainly on the coast.

The forecast for the week shows significant changes in rainfall distribution across the state, with periods of greater instability interspersed with areas of stable weather. The formation of the extratropical cyclone should also influence the evolution of weather conditions until the end of the week.
